  • Keep betting separate from essential expenses, savings and debt payments.
  • Take regular breaks and review your transaction history.

Consider stopping and seeking support if you are chasing losses, hiding gambling from people close to you, borrowing to bet, missing work or responsibilities, feeling unable to stop, or gambling to escape anxiety or low mood.

Free, confidential help in South Africa

The South African Responsible Gambling Foundation provides free and confidential treatment and counselling through the National Responsible Gambling Programme.

The service states that support is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. If you or someone close to you may be in immediate danger, contact local emergency services.

Self-exclusion

The National Gambling Board advises people seeking self-exclusion to contact their gambling operator or Provincial Licensing Authority for the applicable process and to contact the National Responsible Gambling Programme for counselling and support.

Self-exclusion is a serious protective step. Ask each operator you use about account closure, exclusion and available blocking tools, and consider installing device or payment blocks in addition to formal exclusion.

Complaints and illegal operators

The National Gambling Board advises consumers to check the licence information displayed by the operator and to contact the Provincial Licensing Authority that issued the licence for complaints. If the provincial authority cannot assist, the matter may be escalated to the National Gambling Board.
