FirstBet is a South African sportsbook, horse-racing and fixed-odds games platform operated by Banzostar (Pty) Ltd. Its current site publishes detailed registration, FICA, withdrawal, payout-limit and safer-gambling rules, plus a complete first-deposit promotion with separate sports and Bet Spins paths. This is a source-checked review; hands-on testing and a rating remain pending.
Quick verdict
FirstBet provides more operational detail than many competitor sites. The registration flow, account-verification obligations, 24-hour withdrawal instruction wording, daily payout limits and limit-setting tools are all public. The licence presentation needs careful wording: the site shows Western Cape base number 10185107 and Eastern Cape licence ECBM 058, while the current NGB register row lists 10185107-014 and labels that row Eastern Cape. BetExpert preserves the records without guessing how the row’s province label relates to the two licences.
Legal identity and licence evidence
The current footer identifies Banzostar (Pty) Ltd, registration number 2016/131538/07, trading as FirstBet. It says the operator is regulated by the Western Cape Gambling and Racing Board under base licence 10185107, first issued 30 June 2017, and by the Eastern Cape Gambling Board under ECBM 058.
The National Gambling Board register lists Banzostar t/a Firstbet with licence 10185107-014 at 11A Shallcross Road and marks the province as Eastern Cape. This differs from the site’s base-number description and is recorded as a reconciliation item. The rating remains withheld until the operator supplies current certificates and confirms the entity/premises route for online bets.
Registration and FICA
The published registration guide uses three steps: personal information and South African ID or passport number, a mobile number for OTP verification, and confirmation of the OTP. The terms say online customers must provide full names, identity or passport number, residential address, email, telephone number and source of funds. FirstBet says no online betting account is created until identity has been established and verified.
Identification and proof-of-address documents may be required. Proof of address must generally be no older than three months. One account is permitted per customer, and users on exclusion registers or with an existing self-exclusion are not eligible.
A hands-on test will record the actual form, automated verification source, document requirements, rejection wording, time to approval, source-of-funds escalation and whether the current licence presentation is clear before acceptance.
Sports, racing and games
The live menu covers sports, horse racing, Lucky Numbers, Aviator, Bet Spins, Bet Vegas, BetGames and virtuals. The operator publishes separate sports-and-numbers and horse-racing rules. The terms set a R500,000 maximum total daily payout for sports, Lucky Numbers and horse racing, with more specific limits for bet type. Games have provider-specific limits capped at either R2 million or R10 million in the captured terms.
These are contractual limits, not evidence of typical acceptance or payout. BetExpert has not compared market margins, price boosts, maximum stakes, in-play latency, cash-out, racing deductions, settlement speed or mobile accessibility.
Deposits and withdrawals
FirstBet says a withdrawal request is investigated to confirm the amount available. Once availability is confirmed, it instructs the electronic transfer within 24 hours; the additional time taken by the bank to credit the customer’s account is explicitly outside that 24-hour period. Requests are processed on the request date or the following business day.
Withdrawals go only to a South African bank account in the customer’s name. The standard terms allow up to R1 million to be withdrawn every 30 business days, with larger amounts paid incrementally, and require an ordinary deposit to be wagered before withdrawal where the account otherwise appears to be used as a transfer facility.
No funded withdrawal was made for this review. The future test must separate investigation time, operator instruction time and bank delivery, and check method minimums, fees, bank ownership matching and reversal handling.
Current first-deposit offer
The current promotion offers a 100% first-deposit match up to R10,000, with a R50 minimum, and requires the customer to choose one of two routes. The sports, racing or Lucky Numbers route requires the first deposit to be wagered five times at odds of 1.90 or higher; if the deposit is exhausted with all bets resulted, the requirement drops to three times. Multiple legs must each be at least 1.50. The resulting single bonus bet is stake-not-returned, must be wagered once at 1.90 or higher, and pays no more than the lower of five times the bonus or R30,000.
The Bet Spins route requires 20-times first-deposit wagering on eligible Bet Spins games, reducing to ten times if the deposit is exhausted and all bets have resulted. The award is 100 bonus spins, topped up where needed to match the qualifying deposit value. Each bonus spin has a R3,000 maximum payout. Customers have 30 days to qualify, three days to use the awarded bonus, and must claim through support. The terms say allocation can take up to 48 hours.
Support and safer gambling
The site provides live chat and [email protected]. Deposit limits can be set daily, weekly and monthly. Reductions can be made at any time, while increases require at least seven days. Self-exclusion can suspend an account for six months to one year; customers can contact support to arrange withdrawal of available funds during exclusion.
The site links the South African Responsible Gambling Foundation and displays 0800 006 008 and WhatsApp 076 675 0710. A future test must confirm how quickly a limit or exclusion is applied and whether marketing and all product access stop consistently.
